Movement for Comedy

Are you a comedian working on a new show?

Do you want to develop your physicality on stage?

Whether you do stand-up, improv, or sketch, I can help you to connect what you say and what you do onstage.

It’s so easy to forget what my body is doing when I’m performing stand up, there’s a lot to think about. Sam has completely elevated my physical performance.
— James Barr (Comedian, Radio Presenter, and Host of 'A Gay and A Non-Gay')

What is movement direction for comedy?

My approach to movement direction is about meeting the needs of comedians working today whether you are just starting to write new material or you are ready to take on the Fringe.

When you work with me, I will give you bespoke tasks and feedback to find new ways for you to approach your comedy physically whether you are an improviser, a stand up, or character comedian. Using techniques from physical theatre, dance, improvisation, and somatic practices, we will figure out how you move and what your show needs.

Movement for Comedy Workshops

Not ready for an individual session? I run group workshops across London where you can learn about exercises and approaches to apply to your own work.

Your feedback on our sets felt really fresh and good, thank you!

It really helped to view storytelling through the lens of movement and to see how the body and movement could be part of the communication in a really fun way.

The whole workshop was great but particularly enjoyed Sam dissecting my routine and tips on improving my routine through physicality!

The warm up exercises were really useful. The tailored feedback was super useful and definitely gave me lots of things to develop.
